TRI-BRAZE®
THRIVE IN EXTREME, HIGH-IMPACT WEAR CONDITIONS WITH THROUGH-HARDENED, ABRASION- RESISTANT STEEL PLATE.
GOLD STANDARD
As the flagship of the Tricon Wear Solutions product line, Tri-Braze® has stood the test of time as the trusted choice for the toughest jobs for over 50 years. With the industry’s best-performing and largest- selling wear- and abrasion-resistant steel, we set high standards. We put quality above all else and stand behind our products with a 100% guarantee. Our customers come back because when the stakes are high, they need a reliable, proven partner to get the job done right the first time.
STRONG TO THE CORE: HOW TRI-BRAZE WORKS The development of our signature Tri-Braze products begins by investing in high quality, American-made steel. Tri-Braze combines a balance of alloying elements with controlled heat treating and extremely low sulfur and phosphorus to reach an ideal hardness and toughness ratio, plus high-impact resistance. With our proprietary alloy design, chemistry, and exacting processing standards, we consistently deliver full hardness through the plate for the longest-lasting, highest-impact product. Avoid lesser quality plate with a soft middle and choose Tri-Braze for increased efficiency and bottom-line results.
MORE REASONS TO RELY ON TRI-BRAZE
LASTS 2-4 TIMES LONGER Through hardened with high hardness means better wear resistance than soft-core, standard wear plates
HIGH-IMPACT RESISTANCE Extremely-low sulfur content, fine-grain structure and excellent internal cleanliness provide high- impact resistance.
WELDER FRIENDLY Proprietary chemistry provides excellent weldability in field conditions.
COVER ANY APPLICATION Available thickness from ¼” up to 10", widths up to 120", and lengths up to 288" for larger applications
LESS DOWNTIME Long performance life and less downtime lower overall maintenance costs and save time.
BETTER BOTTOM LINE 100% guarantee for optimal performance to improve your company’s bottom line

TRILOY® ALLOY SHAFTING BAR
STRONGEST, TOUGHEST, & MOST MACHINABLE BAR Triloy is a quenched and tempered, machine- straightened, stress-relieved, and demagnetized alloy bar, widely becoming one of the most utilized alloy steel shafting materials in the industry. Our exclusive composition, special processing, and manufacturing controls ensure that you receive the strongest, most fatigue-resistant and machinable shafting bar available on the market. Triloy is based on an AISI 4340 Ni-Cr-Mo chemistry. Impact and fatigue resistance are enhanced by chemistry control and the removal of harmful sulfur and phosphorus. The bars are stress relieved after straightening to avoid “shape bounce back” when machining. Each bar is demagnetized to ensure no pickup of metallic dust to ruin bearing surfaces. APPLICATIONS Applications include arbors, axles, armature shafts, baling press columns, bushings, chain pins, drive shafts and gears, hammer mill shafts, hydropulper shafts, screw shafts, mandrels, pinions, pistons and push rods, track pins, and spindles.
MACHINING Special treatment allows 20- 40% faster cutting speeds and increases carbide life when compared to conventional 4340 bar.
STRENGTH High strength and hardness levels enable you to minimize shafting diameter for your application.
STRESS RELIEF Post-production stress relief minimizes distortion during machining.
BEARING/SHAFT LIFE Demagnetized to eliminate chip/dust pick-up in service, increasing bearing and shaft life.
INVENTORY Sizes available up to 24' and diameters available from 3/4" up to 18".
SERVICE LIFE Improved fatigue properties provide longer service life.

WELDING & FORMING GUIDELINES GUIDELINES FOR SUPER-C® CLADDED WEAR PLATE
Examples:
Cutting Examples
Plasma arc cutting with conventional arc cutting techniques and gases are recommended for shape cutting, piercing large holes, and beveling.
Grinding
Prime-Arc 85™
Grinding and EDM methods are the only proven, satisfactory methods for precision removal of metal. When grinding a hard-grit, a soft bond wheel is required. For non-precision metal removal and hole piercing, use carbon arc gouging.
Prime-Arc 3™
Cold Forming
Generally, the power required to form Super-C will be approximately the same as required for low carbon.
Prime-Arc 85™
Prime-Arc 3™
Welding
Super-C is normally supplied with plasma arc cut edges ready for welding. Welding to carbon steel support structures is accomplished with either Prime-Arc 85™ or Prime-Arc 3™ electrodes using the proper welding procedures. Care should be taken to prevent the clad portion of the plate from diluting the fillet weld.

WELDING & FORMING GUIDELINES GUIDELINES FOR TRI-BRAZE®
5. Post Weld
1. Material Preparation
6. Cold Forming 7. Flame Cutting 8. Plasma Cutting Conventional gases and machine procedures recommended by the supplier of the equipment are usually sufficient for successful plasma cutting of Tri-Braze. Plasma-cut, heat- affected zones are generally more shallow than cuts made with flame. However, the same precautions apply. Conventional flame cutting procedures and fuels are satisfactory for Tri-Braze. Hardening of the cut edges may occur when the heated cut surface is drastically quenched by surrounding cold base metal. If machining torch-cut metal, allow sufficient stock removal to get below the hardened edge or preheat to approximately 204°C (400°F) prior to flame cutting. Plates that reach temperatures below 10 °C (50 °F) and plates thicker than 38mm (1-1/2") should be preheated to approximately 93°C (200°F). With adequate power and proper procedures, moderate forming is possible on all thicknesses. Tri-Braze requires 4x the power of carbon steel. Remove flame-cut and rough edges with a grinder in the bend area using the largest permissible forming radius. Generally, T8 is the minimum inside radius recommended. Allow complete weldment to slow cool to ambient temperature. Post-weld thermal treatment is generally not necessary but is suggested when the welded component is subject to extreme load conditions. When deemed necessary, the welded component can be stress relieved by heating to 204°C (400°F) and held for 30 minutes to one hour per inch of thickness of the plate. The cooling should be done in still air. Post-Weld Inspection — rough, irregular-shaped welds should be ground smooth to remove stress risers that could cause cracks. 48–72 hours after welding, visually examine for cracks, gouges, laps, undercut, or other imperfections.
Thoroughly remove rust, scale, grease, or oil from the weld areas.
2. Preheating
Preheating may be performed by furnace heating, localized gas torches, or thermal strip blankets. Localized preheating should be done in a manner to ensure that the weld area and 305mm (12") beyond are uniformly heated through the material thickness. Preheat must be maintained until all welding has been completed. Cyclic heating and large temperature differentials should be avoided. Minimum preheat should be reached before gouging or welding is initiated.
Preheating Guidelines
3. Weld Interpass Temperature Maximum interpass temperature 260°C (500 °F).
4. Filler Material
Shielded Metal Arc Welding
Welding electrodes should meet AWS 5.5 E8018 C-3 classification. Prime-Arc 3™ electrodes recommended. Electrode size for this procedure should not exceed 4,76mm (3/16") diameter. Ensure the electrodes are free of moisture. Flux Cored Arc Welding The following listed AWS 5.29 wires can be used: E80T1Ni1, E80T5Ni1, E80T5K1, E81T1Ni1. Prime-Arc 3™ wire recommended. Wire should not exceed 2,38mm (3/32") diameter.
9. Machining
Tri-Braze can be drilled and machined through conventional methods. Please contact your Tricon Wear Solutions representative for specific machining instructions.
