The ID is abrasion- resistant at 600BHN, but the outer wall remains ductile for handling and field welding. The XLE Line of elbows are heavy walled and cast from steel with high manganese content. The impact from pneumatic applications actually hardens the ID of the elbow over time! In a real-world application, the 4 ″ XLE transported over 4 million pounds of sand and lasted for a full year. When inspected, that elbow still had half of its wall thickness intact.
